The airline announced it will resume daily nonstop service between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and San Francisco International Airport beginning October 25, 2026. The route reestablishes a key transcontinental corridor that has remained one of the region’s largest underserved markets since service was suspended in 2020.
Bridging the Tri-State Region and the Bay Area
The renewed daily service will utilize Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering daytime departures in both directions to accommodate business and leisure travelers alike. Local leadership and economic development officials welcomed the announcement, highlighting how direct access to San Francisco will strengthen ties between Midwestern commerce hubs and West Coast technology, finance, and tourism sectors.
Regional economic experts project that the daily nonstop route will generate an estimated $36.4 million in total economic impact for the Greater Cincinnati region. The expansion is backed in part by the JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program, a state initiative designed to encourage commercial airlines to expand strategic routes through public-private risk-sharing partnerships.
Opening a Major Gateway to Pacific and Asian Markets
Beyond direct access to Northern California, the San Francisco route provides a crucial gateway for international travel. San Francisco International Airport serves as one of United Airlines’ primary transpacific hubs, offering onward connections to major commercial centers across Asia and the Far East. Travelers departing from Cincinnati will now be able to reach destinations across Japan, China, Southeast Asia, and Australia with a single efficient layover in the Bay Area.
United Airlines executives noted that customer demand for West Coast connectivity from the Tri-State area has surged steadily. San Francisco becomes the carrier’s sixth nonstop destination out of Cincinnati, joining existing routes to Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Houston Intercontinental, Washington Dulles, and Newark Liberty.
